Description
An Occupational Therapist’s role is to support families or individuals when a person is struggling with what they specifically need and want to do. Simply put, occupation is how a person occupies their time. In this case, we are thinking about your children. Are they able to do what they need and want to do during their day?
Think specifically about:
- Daily Living Activities
- Education
- Play
- Rest & Sleep
- Social participation
When your child is struggling in any of these areas, an occupational therapist will consider the activity and then begin to ask questions and provide assessments to find out “why”.
In this guide, you will find a more detailed list of the specific areas of function/ occupation a child may want or need to do. Use this list as a starting point and jot notes about your child’s function. Then assess where your child may benefit from some support from an OT.
