Moving from Knowing to Doing

$4.00

Description

One of the biggest frustrations in homeschooling is watching a child who knows exactly what needs to be done but can’t seem to get started.

Task initiation is an executive functioning skill. It is the ability to move from intention to action.

In the OT is IN podcast episode with Lori Flynn from OT4ADHD, Lori shared the NICE framework to help us think about ways to support task initiation.

NICE stands for:

N = Novelty I = Interest C = Challenge E = Extreme Urgency

The goal is not to use all four at once. Instead, think about which strategy might help your child get over the “starting mountain.”
