Description
Narration, as described by Charlotte Mason and expanded upon by Karen Glass, is the practice of retelling knowledge or experience. This simple yet profound method encourages children to process, recall, and articulate information in their own words.
Narration is a powerful form of synthetic learning.
Unlike analytical learning, which breaks information into separate parts, synthetic learning involves combining and integrating ideas. When children narrate, they gather information, reflect on it, and present it cohesively. This synthesis strengthens comprehension, memory, and critical thinking skills.
Through narration, children internalize knowledge by expressing it. This process requires them to:
- Pay close attention to the material.
- Organize thoughts logically.
- Express ideas clearly and accurately.
Through this guide it is my goal to help you and your family connect narration skills and learning with writing to be able to thrive in your homeschool journey.
